The Climbers
How the game works
My own experience with "The Climbers"
I personally really enjoyed the board game and thought it was a good way to connect us as a group. It took us a very long time to actually find out all the rules and how to play it. It was very confusing in the beggining but in the end we all got it. It took us around 15-20 minutes to fully understand the game and even then we asked Nick for help. The game had big pieces and little pieces. We had small players as well which were quite cute.
During the game I was very shy but I got a lot of help from a dear classmate, Foad. He was very helpful and with his help I nearly won the whole game but I decided to give up during the end as I was stuck and I started helping him. We ended up grouping on another one of our classmates.
Playing "The Climbers" has really brought us together if even for a little while and got us to know eachother a little better. Overall, we all had a lot of fun and we were all laughing!
Why do we play games?
We as players do not only play games just for fun. We all have different motives or ideas why we play games. It can be a wide range of things but Professor Richard Bartle believes that we play games for 4 main motivations which are:
- Achievement: Trying to get more points
- Immersion: Imagining oneself in the game world
- Competition: Trying to defeat opponents
- Cooperation: Working together as a team

I personally really agree with this because these are 4 motives that a lot of my friends and myself have experienced playing different games such as: Black Desert Online, Archeage: Unchained, Smite, League of Legends, Heroes of the Storm and Overwatch. Personally, all of these 4 affect me as well but the one that affects me the most is competition; when I used to play BDO (Black Desert Online) I was extremely ocmpetitive and I practice so much with my main (Valkryie). I would put endless of hours of working so hard to learn all my combos and different mechanics of the character. Valkyrie is one of the hardest characters in the game to do duels with

This outfit is called Glorious Shudad and I spent a lot of money on this out. I then dyed it to black and white because they are my favourite colours!

People also play games because of the social aspect. For example, WoW is a great social game because of the different raids and dungeons. Also there are still some old streamers who stream WoW, one goof example is Asmongold. Even I enjoy his content as its always fresh and new. He knows what he's talking about. People enjoy the social content of games because they can make friends which they can play with endless hours. Usually from my own experience the very least, I always had online-friends that I would play with all the time rather than have real-life friends who would play games with me. Also I am an introvert which of course added to this issue. But even though I was not very social in real life I was quite social in games because that's where I've mostly felt comfortable. This may be the case for a lot more players that may be dealing with depression or anxiety.
